Canada Enjoys a Sucessful 2007 World Championships! [View Photos]

Competition Results:

In the Team Competition held on Saturday, September 29th:

The Mens Team took the SILVER medal in the Team Competition.  The men lost a close decision to Team England.   Men's Team results were:  Gold - Team England, Silver - Team Canada, Bronze - Team Jersey.

Apryl Wales was the team captain for the World Select Team (consisting of a member each from Canada, USA and Israel) and they took SILVER in the womens team competition, losing closely to Team England.  Womens Team results were:  Gold - Team England, Silver - Team World Select, Bronze - Team Scotland.


In the Individual Competition held on Sunday, September 30th:

Mark Simon - Bronze - Mens Lightweight
Mario Curran - Bronze - Mens Middleweight
Adam Hensen - Gold - Mens Light Heavyweight
Apryl Wales - Gold - Womens Openweight
Steve Huff - Fourth Place, Mens Masters Heavyweight

All fighters fought like champions, despite some unfortunate injuries.  All of the team represented their country and the association well.  WELL DONE!!!!

Special mention must be made of Steve Huff, Gary Pilon and Terry Yanke who refereed for both days of the competition.  In particular, Gary Pilon was recognized for the quality of his refereeing.  All 3 gentlemen were instrumental in helping the championships run smoothly.

Special congratulations also to Terry Yanke, who was elected president of the World Council of Jiu-Jitsu Organizations, the governing body for the World Championships.  Terry will serve both as president of the CJA and the WCJJO concurrently.

All in all, a great world championships for our team.  The next Championships will be held in the USA in 2010!

Team Canada Results from 2001 World Championships:

 

On September 29th and 30th, several CJA members competed as
representatives of Canada at the World Council of Jiu-Jitsu Organization's
World Championships, held at Fort Regent Sports Complex in St. Helier,
Jersey, Channel Islands.

  The team consisted of the following CJA members:

Competition was fierce in the team division, but Canada managed a 5th place finish, despite some heavy competition from all countries. The next day, team members competed in individual competition and fared very well, garnering 8 medals in total.

Congratulations to all who competed and look out in 2004 when the World Championships comes to Canada!
